The Boys Face Was Dirty
Mrs. Bates Takes Care Of Roger
the purse represents the mental baggage that mrs. luella bates has to carry from when she was rogers age, as well as everything else throughout her life.
mrs. bates tells the boy that his face is dirty, and asks if there is anyone home to tell him to wash is face. when he says no, that represents that he has to fend for himself.
Mrs. Bates is represented as a mentor to roger, since she later states that she "was young once" insinuating that she did some things that she regrets, possibly trying to help roger not to fall in the same line she did.
