It is September 17th, 1862, at the Antietam Creek near Sharpsburg, Maryland. Currently, we are witnessing the Battle of Antietam. The Confederate General, Robert Lee, and his army are battling Union General George McClellan’s army. After losing nearly every battle previous to this one, the Union desperately needed a victory. Let us take a look at one of our brave soldiers, Johnny Hooke.
My name is Johnny and I am currently 23 years old from Boston, Massachusetts. I have always wanted to fight in a war, to prove my prowess on the battlefield.
My grandfather died fighting during the Revolutionary War against the British, and now I will continue his legacy.
I am fighting for the Union. Keeping slaves just is not right. It goes against what we Americans stand for. Liberty and justice for all, and blacks should be included in that too.
