Lennie and George run away from their old job because Lennie decided to touch a woman's dress out of immaturity.
They finally found the Salinas River. Lennie ran to the water and started gulping as much as he could. George seemed disgusted by this act.
George took a sip and decided that they'd stay the night in the beautiful setting. He noticed that Lennie had something in his pocket, and demanded to know what it was.
Lennie gave up the dead mouse and George threw it across the river.
The two boys were hungry, so they decided to eat dinner. George demanded Lennie to get the logs to prepare the food. After they started a fire, they heated up the food, ate, and decided to let the fire die down itself.
They got ready to sleep, looking at the starry night. To comfort Lennie, George told the story about what they'd do in the future. The two boys slept peacefully.
