Hi! My name is Rover. My purpose is to do research within our Solar System for the nice people I work for at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
I dream of finding life somewhere other than Earth. I look for life by collecting dust, rocks, and even taking pictures. I am really good at exploring!
Rover is leaving for his first expedition tomorrow! He is so excited and so are the scientists who created him.
One year on Earth (365 days) is equal to one whole trip around the sun. Wow!
The sun is so pretty and bright! I wish I could get closer to it, but it is 27 million degrees fahrenheit. The sun is also a star. Everything in our solar system revolves around it.
I'm going to go to Mercury first! Mercury is the first planet from the sun in our solar system. It isn't as hot as the sun, but it is still 800 degrees during the day even though it gets to -280 degrees at night.
While it takes Earth 365 days to make its trip around the sun, it only takes Mercury 88 days.
Unfortunately, Venus is not safe to live on because of very high temperatures and high pressures (like being deep under water).
Venus is next! In our Solar System, Venus is the second planet from the sun. It is the second brightest object in the sky besides Earth's moon. It takes Venus 224 days to make it around the sun.
Most of the Earth is covered in water and the rest is covered in land with features like lakes, rivers, and mountains. Earth was formed over 4 billion years ago.
Home sweet home! Earth is the third planet in our Solar System and the only planet in it that can support life like humans, plants, and animals.
Rover lived the rest of his life out peacefully on Earth, always remembering his big adventure!
