  • Before the Industrial Revolution women were expected to stay home and care for the house and their children. 
  • I have guests coming over after work. Can you clean the house?
  • Once the Industrial Revolution hit women began to work in the new factories and mills.
  • Working gave women a taste of freedom and made them realize what they were missing. 
  • Seneca Falls, 1848: Women gathered together for Women's Rights Convention and rewrote the Declaration of Independence to include women in it. 
  • They also wanted to abolish slavery.
  • The fight continued on into the 20th century led by:
  • Elizabeth Cady Stanton
  • Susan B. Anthony
  • In 1920, women gained the right to vote when the 19th amendment was passed.
