  •     One of the main themes of The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street by Rod Serling is blaming others and pointing fingers can lead to bad things/events. This theme has three ways it can be supported. First, Charlie started blaming others and he ended up with a conclusion that he was very certain about and killed an innocent person.  He had found his scapegoat and wanted to punish him by killing him, Charlie just wanted to protect everyone by getting rid of the person he blamed.  Next, Everyone thought the Charlie was the monster, so they were yelling at him for an explanation. Since everyone believed Charlie was the one they started to try to hurt him and wanted an explanation to why they shouldn't hurt him. Finally, Everyone  started blaming each other and one person came up with the idea that two people were working with each other against them; and the person who made the accusation wanted everyone to help him capture the person he blamed. That man pointed his finger at not only one person but two, he believed his accusation was true so he wanted people to help him. The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street still has many more themes that can be supported. but this theme is shown frequently throughout the teleplay.
