  • Oh, my God! God help me! Betty. Child. Dear child. Will you wake, will you open up your eyes! Betty, little one ...
  • "I saw Goody Sibber with the devil!" ... "I saw Goody Hawkins with devil!!" .. "I saw Goody Booth with the devil!"
  • "There is a murdering witch among us, bound to keep herself in the dark. Let your enemies make of it what they will, you cannot blink it more."
  • Reverend Parris, father of Betty and uncle of Abigail. Minister in the Salem church. He is paranoid, self absorbed, loves attention and is determined. His role in the witch trials was the accuser.
  • Pray, John, be clam .. This will set us all to arguin' again in the society, and we thought to have peace this year. I think we ought to rely on the doctor now and good prayer.
  • Abigail is Parris' niece. She had an affair with John Proctor and was excused from the house service. She is manipulative, conniving and controls the girls by threatening their lives. Abigail is the prime accuser and the witch trials started because she started to lie about seeing people with the devil.
  • "I do think I see some shred of goodness in John Proctor. Not enough to weave a banner with, but white enough to keep it from such dogs."
  • Thomas Putnam, selfish and a liar. He is a wealthy land owner. He accuses people of witchery and uses the witch trials as a way to buy the land of the people accused of being a witch.
  • "My husband - is a goodly man, sir."
  • Rebecca Nurse is one of the most respected people in Salem. She is caring and kind. She argues against the witch trials and then Mrs. Putnam accused her of witchery.
  • John Proctor was a simple farmer. Married to Elizabeth and had three children. He had an affair with Abigail but broke it off. He is loving, protective and ashamed. Does everything to help his wife get out of jail. Ends up being accused. Hangs for not confessing to witchery.
  • Elizabeth Proctor is the wife of John Proctor. She is good, honest and loving to her husband and three kids. She is forgiving of her husbands after he has an affair with Abigail. Abigail wants to take Elizabeths place so she accused her of witchery. Elizabeth got pregnant and her life was spared for a year.
