  • Factual Intro
  • Just to get you started on our story, we are in the late 300's and there are 5 main patriarchs that are the most important and largest Christian communities which are Rome, Alexandria, Antioch, Jeruslem, and Constantinople.
  • Pope
  • For awhile, those five patriarchs were doing well and had fair control. That was until the pope demanded to claim authority over all Christrians
  • I want them all!
  • Nature of Jesus
  • This hasto stop!
  • People started getting into agruements about the nature of Jesus. So, the king of Constantinople felt like the church had to have ONE set of religious beliefs, so he called the council of Church officials.
  • No he didn't!
  • Jesus made Peter head of the Church!
  • Icons
  • Controversy over the use of icons (holy images that are put in a household) started and once again, many Christians started arguing and getting in fights.
  • War of Icons
  • Byzantine emperors tried to stop icon worship by sending people to attack the churches and towns!
  • Beginning of the Great Schism
  • The fights kept going on for awhile, but then, this is when the Great Schism began.
  • Icon are a path to God! They are not to be taken unseriously!
  • No! You really think that! There just silly objects.
  • Just to get you started on our story, we are in the late 300's and the five main patriarchs with the most important an largest Christian communities are Constantinople, Rome, Antioch, Jerusalem, and Alexandria.
