  • One day In the kingdom of Thesbes, King Laius and his wife Jocasta had gave birth to their son.
  • Darling, we should get rid of our son for which the prophecy of the Gods said that he shall kill me, his father, so to avoid that outcome of the prophecy i think exposing him to Mount Cithaeron would be the answer to our worries.
  • His birth And so they did, they left him on the side of Mount Cithaeron to die, with an additional precaution they also nailed his ankles together.
  • The beginning of his life Unfortunately, the baby survived because their shepherd gave the baby to the messenger of Corinth, and he decided to give him to Polybus King of Corinth and his wife, because they are not able to conceive a child.
  • We shall be his parents, and love & care for him as our own. And, we shall name him Oedipus which means swollen feet.
  • My king, i bring to you a child near his death, i bring him unto you for you to raise him, My Lord.
  • The Death of King Laius Many years later, Oedipus left Corinth because he wanted to avoid the prophecy that the temple of Apollo gave him which said that he will marry his mother and kill his father, and so he came across Laius on the road and killed him and the servants as well, except one who managed to escape, because King Laius hit him with a stick and he became so angry.
  • The Sphinx At that time, Thebes was being terrorized by an unusual creature with a head of a monster, body of a lion, wings of an eagle, called the sphinx. She gives a riddle and men who answered wrong will be eaten. But then Oedipus got it right and so the sphinx threw herself of the cliff and Oedipus became king in the kingdom of Thebes.
  • A man.
  • What walks on four legs in the morning, two legs in the afternoon and three legs in the evening?
  • Their Marriage As Oedipus was crowned king, he also got to marry the Queen of Thebes and had 4 children. Then years later there was a sickness spreading in the kingdom of Thebes, and so he sent Creon, his brother-in-law to go to Apollo and seek their solution for the pollution.
  • The Blind Prophet When Creon came back he reported that the only solution to the pollution is for them to find out who killed the former king of Thebes which is King Laius. He investigated and asked a lot of people and they all answered "You shall seek the help of the Blind Prophet" for he knew all but couldn't see anything, and so he called Tiresias, the Blind Prophet.
  • What non-sense are you saying?!
  • You are person who you seek! You are the one who killed King Laius!
