Shortly after his mother shuffled away, his father came knocking on his door, but with his fists. "Gregor, Gregor," he called. Moments later, he called again with warning deepening in his voice: "Gregor! Gregor!" Lines 103-106 (6.B)
As the knocking continued, his sister came to the door plaintively: Gregor? Aren't you well? Do you need anything?" Gregor answered to both sides: "I'm ready now," making an effort to remove all the strangeness form his voice. Lines 106-109 (6.C)
