Election of 1860 and Secession
Lincoln vs Breckinridge vs Bell vs Douglas
We are here at the party convention to endorse popular sovereignty
No, the lower south will not accept this. I'm leaving!
The South supports me (Breckinridge)
At least there's Missouri (Douglas)
The North supports me (Lincoln)
I got 12% popular vote... (Bell)
Yay! I just won the election of 1860! I won 40% of the popular votes and accumulated 180 electoral votes...and my name wasn't even on ballets in the south!
If Lincoln won without a single electoral vote from the south, should we even be part of the Union?
11 states from the south are seceding from the union as a result of the election. Our voice isn't being heard .
As a result of the Election of 1860, many white southerners felt that their position in the union was hopeless. Another legacy of the Lincoln victory was the process of disunion beginning, leading to the civil war.
