Storyboard Text

  • Sweetvember 5th, 2018, on a frosty cold day, a group of artificial misfits attend the S.A.S.S. meeting in order to confess their sugary sins....
  • S.A.S.S.
  • Welcome, my name is Dr. S. Cube and this is, "Sugars Anonymous for Synthetic Sweeteners." As sugar substitutes, we have been told we are a healthy alternative for humans to consume and avoid weight gain. However, we have lied to them about our potential risks like promoting obesity and type 2 diabetes. What have been your experiences?
  • Hi everyone, my name is Stevia. I’m an herb from South America. I’m considered to be one of the healthiest artificial sweeteners because of my anti-cancer properties. I can improve cholesterol levels, lower blood pressure, and the diabetics just love me! Unfortunately, the FDA says that my leaves are not considered safe, so people have to extract sugar from me. Often at times, I wish I could go back to those good old days where Brazilian Tribes would chew on my leaves.

  • The name's Splenda. My friends call me Sucralose. That's because Sucralose is the Compound that makes me taste so sweet. Its formed by replacing specific atoms found in Sucrose with chlorine atoms. I am 600 times sweeter than Sucrose, but with fewer calories. I used to be thought to pass through the body untouched, but it turns out I am partially metabolized by it. I may not be that great for consumption, but I'm still better for humans than regular sugar products which have much higher cancer risks.

  • Sup everyone. My name’s Aspartame. I’m a synthetic sweetener from boston. I'm made up of two types of amino acids: L-aspartic and L-phenylalanine. Amino acids are found in most sport supplements. If you’re looking for me, you can find me in most diet drinks. To be completely honest, I'm quite ashamed of my effects on the human body. I can cause eye problems, headaches and migraines, various cancers, you name it. I guess the only positive thing about me is that, without me, there wouldn’t be any soft drinks, but who needs those anyways?

  • I can see that each of us have our own sugary take on our sweetener community. While we may cause the odd type two diabetes here or there, we still cause less health problems than those nasty sugar products. By sharing each of your stories, you've helped to change the bitter misconceptions given to artificial sweeteners. It's important to focus on the sweet aspects of life rather than the sour.
  • .... And they all lived deliciously ever after.... THE END
