Mr. Ford was Solomon first master being a slave. Mr. Ford was kind and generous to all of his slaves and he give special treatment to Solomon after accomplishing something that was never done before.
After having conflict with one of Mr. Ford employee who threatened his life, Solomon was transferred to Mr. Epps. There he spend years picking cotton and they were whipped when they get less than the average pickings for a day.
When Mr. Epps' plantation was attacked by pests, he lend his slaves to a friend who owns sugarcane field. Solomon was given an extra job where he earned money for himself. He used the money to pay a friend to deliver his message to the his family but he was betrayed.
They returned to Mr. Epps' property where Solomon met Mr. Bass who believes in the equality of white and black people. He told Mr. Bass his story and convinced him to send a letter to his family in Saratoga to bring him the proof that he is a free man.
One day, while solomon was working, a sheriff came to him and asked information which will prove his true identity. They confirmed that he is Solomon Northup when Mr. Parker showed up. They brought Solomon with them as they leave the property.
After 12 years of being a slave, he came back to his home and finally reunited with his family. He asked forgiveness for his long time absence and his family accepted his apologies. They lived happily with the new members in their family, Margaret's husband and child.
