  • In the late 1800's on a cold afternoon in the backwoods of Europe. The White family, Mr. White, Mrs. White and their son Herbert were awaiting the arrival of Sergeant Major Morris. Mr. White and Herbert were playing chess while Mrs. White was preparing dinner. Mr. White believes Sergeant Major Morris will not show because of the weather conditions, but he eventually shows . He begins to talk about his amazing life leaving everyone in awe.
  • Climax
  • He got caught in the machinery.
  • Mr. White brings up the monkey's and Sergeant Major Morris tries to avoid it saying it's nothing. Finally Sergeant Major Morris begins to tell him about the magical monkey's paw. He explains that the paw was made for 3 different men to grant 3 wishes each. Only 2 men including himself used the paw and his wishes were granted. He says it has caused enough trouble and then tosses it in the fire. Mr. White quickly grabs it out of the fire and Morris told him let it burn.
  • Falling Action
  • THE PAW!
  • Come back to bed honey.
  • Morris leaves and Herbert tells Mr. White to wish for 200 pounds. He wished but nothing happened. Herbert said goodnight and sad alone in the dark. He began to see something in the fire that looked so horrible and monkey-like he stared at it in amazement. Then when he realized he was still holding the monkey’s paw he quickly put it down and with a little shiver wiped his hand on his coat. put out the fire. Then he went up to bed. The next morning Herbert joked and went off to work.
  • Resolution
  • Mr White and Mrs White were having a conversation but Mrs. White was distracted by the mysterious movements of a man outside in the street, who seemed to be trying to decide whether to open the gate and enter. Finally he came to the door. He delivered the new that Herbert was caught in the machinery and had died. He said that the place he worked does not take the blame but for his services they gave them 200 pounds. The Whites were devastated at the loss of their only son
  • The old man woke up suddenly in the night and heard the crying crying from his wife. He told her to come back to bed and then fell asleep. He is awaken by Mrs White who was screaming about the monkey's paw. She told Mr White to use it to wish herbert to life but nothing happened and they went back to sleep. The were both awoken by knocking on the door. Mrs White is filled with joy and runs down stairs to open the door.
  • She is struggling to open the door while the knocking continues. Mr. white searches for the paw. Right before she opens the door he makes his last wish. The knocking suddenly stopped, though it still echoed in the house. He heard the door open. A cold wind rushed up the stairs and a loud wail of disappointment and misery broke from his wife. It gave him the courage to run to her, then to the gate outside. The street lamp flickering on a quiet road.
