  • Madame losel comes from a nice family but marries a middle class man and longs for the luxuries of being wealthy and owning expensive and elegant things.
  • Climax
  • Her husband gets an invitation to a party from work and she is devastated because she doesn't have an evening dress or jewelry to wear. Her husband suggests she borrow a piece from her friend and she gets permission to wear it to the party.
  • Falling Action
  • She makes it to the party with her husband, who ends up sleeping in a chair for most of the night while his wife is out partying.
  • Conclusion
  • Madame Loisel realizes that she had lost the necklace and she and her husband went out and tried to look for it. They didn't find it but als didn't want to tell her friend she lost it. so they put all of their money together and got loans from every where to buy a new necklace for over 30,000 francs.
  • The Loisel's spend the next ten years  paying back everything they had borrowed to get the necklace. They had moved into an attic and dissmissed their maid. Madame Loisel began to do all of the household work and learned what it means to do hard work.
  • After ten years of working they finally paid off all of their debt and Madame Loisel went out shopping. However when she went out shopping she saw her old friend that had lent her the necklace. She went up to talk to her and told her about the last ten years only to find out that the necklace was actually made of fake diamonds and was worth only 500 francs!
