  • Let's get married in D.C.! Interracial marriage is aloud there, so after we can come back to Virginia. 
  • Robert Loving 
  • Mildred Loving 
  • Ok!
  • 5 weeks later...
  • You're under arrest!
  • The law does not permit interracial marriage,
  • You must leave Virginia for 25 years or he gets one year of prison. 
  • I am going to write to Robert Kennedy for help, and we will take this to the supreme court if we have to.
  • We need to fight this injustice and get back to our home in Virginia.

  •  Virginia’s interracial marriage law violated the 14th Amendment to the Constitution.
  • So, Robert and Mildred moved back to their home in Virginia, and interracial marriage laws were struck down in 16 other states.
