Storyboard Text

  • Before the Battle
  • Ready troops! Charge!!!!
  • Before the Battle
  • Just a little farther till we reach the Franks! Tour's gold here we come!
  • The Battle
  • Battle ahead! One more victory and then we will get our gold!
  • For years Muslim/Arabian armies attacked civilizations all over the middle east, gaining much of the regions land.
  • The Battle
  • Retreat!!!!!
  • They had already conquered and looted a very large amount of civilizations when they reach the Frankish territory. The rich city of Tour was in these borders, and general Abd er Rahman aimed to capture and plunder it.
  • Because of the Battle
  • Best leader of them all!
  • Eventually, the Arabian army could see a battle was waiting ahead, as Charles Martel's army was awaiting him in the forest ahead.  The Arabians were hesitant, as they believed that the Franks had a large army, and that they were very well prepared for these battle conditions. Six restless days had passed when battling finally begun.
  • Because of the Battle
  • The Arabian cavalry units were powerful, with lances and spears, but the infantry of the Frankish army had a strategic battle plan. The same Muslim forces that had previously conquered most of Europe could not succeed in breakng through enemy lines.
  • This was one of very few instances in history, where soldiers withstood the power of cavalry, as the Muslims ended up retreating after one day of battling.  The leader of the Frankish army, Charles Martel, was given the nickname hammer for his part in driving away the Muslims. He continued defeating Muslim forces and conquered their land.
  • Martel! You are the hammer!
  • If Martel would have failed in defeating Abd er Rahman's army, the Arabians and the religion of Islam with them would have invaded the rest of European and Christian territory, and in the end dissolved the culture. Without Martel, the religion may not have existed today and the entire culture of Europe may have been altered for good.
