Perseus and his gracious mother, Danaë, were stuck in a chest for a day and a night. They were then rescued by a fisherman passing by. After, Perseus grew up on a small island with his mother which was ruled by Polydectes.
Meeting with a Mentor
Polydectes didn't approve of Perseus on the island so he sent him on a quest and didn't expect him to succeed. Polydectes told Persues he wanted the head of Medusa. Perseus then accepted the request and went on the adventure.
Crossing the Threshold
Polydectes hindered while he was still trying to trick Perseus, so he tried to discourage him to go on the quest. He knew because of Perseus's bravery that he would accept the adventure. This lead to Perseus finding his mentor.
Test, Allies, and Enemies
Perseus went to Mount Olympus and met his mentor Hermes. Hermes was known as the messenger of the gods. He told Perseus he would be his guide and give him a sword that would never be broken.
Perseus and Hermes traveled to the gray land, where it was always gray twilight. On the way there they found the shriveled old Gray Women. Hermes was guiding Perseus and giving him advice along the way.
Perseus and Hermes were close allies along the way. The Gray Women was the first enemy that they faced in order to find the nymphs. Finally, they found Medusa and this is when the real challenge began.
