While the Cyclops is doing his chores, Odysseus wonders how he can hurt the Cyclops. Then he sees the olive tree. Page 1054 lines 255-266

When the Cyclops was with his sheep, Odysseus uses this time to make a stake out of the olive tree. He and his men were scraping , smoothing, and holding over a fire to toughen it. Then placing it under dung. Page 1054 lines 272-278
After finishing his chores, the Cyclops eats more men. Odysseus then offers wine to wash down the men. He plans to get the Cyclops drunk. Page 1054 lines 296-300
While Odysseus is giving him more wine, the Cyclops asks Odysseus for his name. Odysseus tells him his name is Nohbdy. Page 1055-56 lines 305-316
After getting the Cyclops drunk, he passes out. Odysseus and his men get the staff from under the dung. Page 1056 lines 319-322
Odysseus and his men then stab the Cyclops in the eye while he is asleep. The eyeball is badly injured and the roots pop as a result. Page 1056 lines 323-340
