  • Deborah was born on December 17, 1760 in Plympton, Massachusetts
  • Since Deborah's family was poor, she became an indentured servant to Deacon Benjamin Thomas at age 10.
  • When her indenture was completed, she decided to join the war. Women weren't allowed to join, so she disguised as a man named Robert Shurtleff.
  • (Deborah) Robert joined The Fourth Massachusetts Regiment. 
  • During her duty in the war, her job was to scout British territory and record the amount of people & materials. IT WAS DANGEROUS
  • Without Deborah Sampson's bravery and determination, we wouldn't be the America we are today.
