What's in that folder?
How am I not dead?
Why is there a map in here?
Dear Thomas: I believe that we have already gathered enough data for a cure without the procedure, so I stopped it to save your life. Now I have a task for you. You must save as many immunes from the maze as possible. Then take them to the backdoor flat trans, where you should be able to start a new life. All of these locations are marked on the map. Take them all and leave. Ava Paige, Chancellor
Thomas was chosen as the final candidate for WICKED's Trials, which were designed to find a cure for the flare. The final trial Thomas has to undergo is a fatal surgery that will complete a blueprint for a cure for the flare. But for some reason Thomas has woken up and is not dead. There is a folder with THOMAS written on it on a table nearby.
One of the papers in the folder was a map. The map had paths to each of the mazes they used for the trials. It also had a map to a back door "flat trans", a type of teleportation device.
The other paper was a letter from the head of WICKED, Chancellor Ava Paige. She told Thomas that he needed to save the immunes they had gathered; these immunes were hidden in the maze. This scene stood out to me because it was ironic that the head of WICKED, the organization that had tortured these characters throughout this trilogy, had been the one that helped Thomas salvage what was left of the human race. If the chancellor hadn't stopped the procedure, Thomas would be dead and the human race would have gone extinct.
