Pompeii was a city in italy. At least 200,000 people were citizens at the time. All was going well till...
MT. Vesuvius was a volcano next to the city and naples. It had erupted many times before.
But never as violent as the eruption on August 79 AD.
It destroyed anything within 15 miles. But the clogged air, ash and smoke reached out much farther.
Most were able to evacuate before it got worse but at least 2 thousand didnt, and didnt survive. The ash and smoke clogged the air making it hard to breathe. Everything was covered in ash. People were plastered in ash.
Most of pompeii was covered in this ash and was abandoned. But in 1748, some explorers removed the ash, that had preserved a lot. Most buildings were still intact alowing for scientists to research life and artifacts from pompeii.
