For males, this phase starts during the early teens and continues until age 25.
Adolescence This period was first studied in 1904 by Stanly Hall.
During this time period, the frontal lobe begins growing at a faster pace, so a persons decision making abilities begin forming around this time, which is why Teenagers are usually bad at making choices. Adolescents are tend to favor decisions with imediate impact, hence their tendency for a high risk lifestyle.
It is due to the development of the brain during this time period that the death penalty is abolished for those under the age of 18.
Females enter puberty at a slightly younger age, at around the age of 9. They tend to grow faster than men height wise, typically being taller than men until the age of 14.
Puberty for both genders also includes the increased growth of the myelin sheath. The neural processes of a human being is also pruned, meaning any neuron pathway that is unused is lost.
Between Pruning and the growth of the brain, adolescence is the time where our body begins to prepare us for adulthood with our mental and physical development of our body.
