This is such unfair treatment towards these prisoners and this person who is mentally ill
I'm not even a criminal I'm just poor and mentally ill, and can't afford to go to the hospital
I don't even owe that much money, my debt is only $30, yet they put me here

I wonder if there is anything that I can do to help these people who are in the prison for smaller crimes, and children crowded in with adults.

My proposal is that kids accused of minor crimes should not be put in jail with adults, and that debtors should be let out to repay their debts, and people who mentally ill should be able to go to hospitals to get treated
Dorothea Dix thought that having kids put in jail with adults was a bad idea, it was also kind of overkill, for mainly minor crimes, like theft.
Gentlemen, how fair do you think it is that children are being put in prison with adults, or that mentally ill people are put in prison because they can't afford to be in hospitals.
I agree with her even though she is a woman, I hope we can get what she wants passed so that all men are treated equally.

Dorothea Dix decided to present to the people who ran the prisons that they should have kids be put in differing cells and that debtors be let out of prison so that they could pay their debts. She also wanted people who were mentally ill to be able to go to the hospital.
Dorothea Dix luckily had found out that many people had the same ideas about how people were treated in prison, so she had lots of support, some of it even came form people who ran prisons.
People agreed with her and so they decided that they would not only meet her demands, they also made it so that mentally ill people weren't treated so poorly and they could get the type of treatment they deserved, for
