In the year 622, Muhammad and his followers traveled to Yathrib, renaming it Medina, or "city of the prophet."
As he continued his teachings, he became Medina's political and military leader.
Muhammad returned to Mecca as a conqueror in 630.
He prohibited the worship of the past gods and proclaimed Islam to be the religion of Arabia.
More and more Arabs converted to Islam.
Muhammad founded one of the main world religions. After his death, his faith continued to spread and evolve. The Qu'ran, Muhammad's teachings, became the foundation of the Islamic faith.
