Patty Valentine finds a bartender and two other men lying in a pool of blood. One man named Bello, a suspect on the scene, immediately tries to divert any suspicions away from himself.
He ain't the guy!
Is this the one who tried to kill you?
Police come to investigate the crime scene and begins to question the witnesses. Bello along with his accomplice Arthur Dexter Bradley puts the blame on an innocent, unknowing man on the other side of the city.
Don't forget that you are white.
You'll be doing society a favor. We want to pin this triple murder on him.
I'm really not sure.
Rubin Carter drives around another part of town with his friends, having a fun time with the title of the number one contender for middleweight crown until cops come to pull him over.
Back at the scene, police find out that one of the victims is still alive and bring him to the hospital. They also bring in Rubin to see if the injured man will identify him as the culprit.
Four months later, the case is still ongoing. The police know that Arthur Dexter Bradley and Bello committed the crime but are trying to find ways to pin it on Rubin. In the end, they decide to take him to court without evidence.
With an unfair, pig-circus of a trial, Rubin Carter receives a harsh sentence and is put in a jail cell. He could have been the champion of the world.
