Storyboard Text

  • Mom can you please explain how the day and night happens?
  • Sure, I will explain it to you
  • Do you know earth rotates around the sun?
  • Yes
  • We get day and night because the Earth spins (or rotates) on an imaginary line called its axis and different parts of the planet are facing towards the Sun or away from it. It takes 24 hours for the world to turn all the way around, and we call this a day.
  • We have day and night because the Earth rotates. It spins on its axis, which is an imaginary line passing through the North and South Poles. The Earth spins slowly all the time, but we don't feel any movement because it turns smoothly and at the same speed.
  • Earth rotates on its axis; this causes to experience day and night. But Earth's axis is tilted 23.5degrees (the angle is measured between Earth's equatorial plane and the plane in which it orbits our Sun).
  • Earth’s rotation occurs from west to east, which is why the Sun always appears to be rising on the eastern horizon and setting on the western.
  • Thank you mom, I learnt a lot today.
