  • Lets start going to the West!
  • Okay! This will be a long journey, but it'll be worth it!
  • We can't make a home here because there are too many trees.
  • Yes, too many trees.
  • That was a long journey!
  • Yes, but we found this beautiful land were we can live!
  • During the 19th century, over 200,000 men, woman, and children traveled the Oregon and California trails.
  • Oh Pa! Look at the deer!
  • Oh, yes! That will make a fine dinner!
  • While they walked and rode miles on the trails, they searched for news homes in the west.
  • It was a very difficult journey that took 5 months to travel 2,000 miles.
  • While on the trail, they often hunted for food.
  • After they settled, women took care of the children, cooked meals, cleaned the house, kept a vegetable garden, washed clothes, and other jobs that depended on their family.
  • Once settled, men had very few options for jobs. They had to build a house, then either be a farmer or a woodcutter.
