The British set the Stamp Act for the colonists to pay their debt, this was by putting a tax on paper. This included newspapers, and legal and commercial documents. The loyalists were okay with this law and thought it was fair, but on the other hand the Patriots disagreed and did not like this law.
That is unfair, we are in peacetime, why should we do this.
Shelter and provide supplies for my soldiers.
The Patriots did not like this because they didn't think the British had the right to tax the colonists. The British also said they had to pay the tax only in silver, But the Patriots were lower class and didn't always have silver.
This will teach the British, ha.
The British made a law where the colonists had to give shelter and supplies to the soldiers, called the quartering act. The colonists thought this was an unfair law because they were in peacetime. Meaning the soldiers weren't in war, so they were useless at the moment.
The Patriots threw all of our tea, it must be because they don't want to pay the taxes!!
So, the colonists resented. The British were very upset about this.
The British set taxes on the tea too. So the colonists decided to boycott all the tea that was shipped. All the tea was thrown into the sea. The Patriots did this protest because they thought it was unfair to tax them so much.
So once the news reached London by the deligates, the British shut down Boston Harbor until all of the 340 chests of British tea was paid for.
