Types of prescriped depressants drug: 1. Barbiturates 2. Benzodiazepines 3. Sleep Medications
Depressants referred as: central nervous system (CNS) depressants or tranquilizers
Depressants drug use effect on the body: Short term- Result from single use Long term- Results from an extended time used
Long Term: 1. Addiction 2. Withdrawal 3. Seizures 4. Death
Short Term: 1. Slow reaction time 2. Drowsiness 3. Balance problems 4. Sluggish speech
Drug Statistics 1. Fewer than 50% become symptoms free 2. 90% experience side effects (mostly minor)
3. 6.6% U.S adults population experienced major depressive disorder during preceding 12 months 4. $9.9 billion dollars are worth of antidepressants prescribed by doctors in 2009 ranking fourth highest in prescription drugs in the U.S
