My brother and I were so excited. We were on the way to my first district wide spelling bee. I was shaking in the car. My nervousness could not be contained.
This is the 2014 District-wide Spelling Bee!
Everyone came early, so we were locked outside for a little bit. But it was okay, that meant more time to practice! The inconvenience was annoying, and a lot of people were complaining. I was ready at this time, though.
I'm lactose intolerant :(
30 MINUTES LATER...
We walked down the hallway in the TAC building, ready to go into the ball room. We overheard our superintendint at the the time talking about the spelling bee. He was obviously excited too. It felt good to know that he was excited for us.
Iconic. I-C-O-N-I-C. Iconic.
The organizers of the event were introducing all of the spelling bee participants. The called names from all primary, junior high, and high schools in our district. When they called my name, I think I forgot how to breathe! I also felt honored to be part of the spelling bee.
Everyone then went to the cafeteria for cookies and cupcakes. Fun times. The spelling bee participants got special cupcakes. All of the other people got cookies to eat. We all ate in the cafeteria while the organizer set the ballroom up.
We had a pre-spelling bee. They gave a sheet and called us words to write down. I didn't know a word, so I cheated. I think they caught me, so I didn't continue on into the competition. I learned to never cheat in life from that experience.
