Romulus and Remus were brothers and were raised by wolves. Somebody found them and taught them how to live like a human. One day a royal person found them and then they became rulers. They built a city and named it Rome because Romulus killed Remus
The Plebeians were the common people of Rome. The Patricians were the wealthier people of Rome. The Plebeians were not aloud to be a patrician. In the early republic a body known as the assembly represented the citizens of Rome, including the plebeians, and the senate was an elite group that maintained control of the republic, and was the most powerful body in the Roman Republic.
The Early Roman Empire
Rome formed a defensive alliance against the Etruscans called the Latin league. During this time the Romans won total victory over the Latins, they annihilated Carthage, they fought Macedonia and defeated the Seleucid King Antiochus lll of Syria, and gained the Asian kingdom of Pergamum. As the Rome increased in wealth and power the foundation of the Republic began to crumble.
Caesar Augustus and the Pax Romana
200 years of peace
Julius Caesar was a Roman Emperor who the citizens of Rome liked but not the Senate. Caesar controlled Rome and much of the world. Julius Caesar was murdered by the senate because he claimed to be dictator for life.
I am dictator for life.
Antony, Julius Caesar's closest friend, and Octavian, Julius Caesar's 18 year adopted son and legal heir to the throne, fought each other for the throne. Octavian won. He tried to make taxes fair through the census which counted total population and value of property in each province. By the birth of Christ, Rome became the world's alternative to God.
Caesar Augustus started the Pax Romana. The Pax Romana is the 200 years of peace and prosperity in the Roman Empire from 30 B.C.-A.D. 180. During this time Caesar Augustus expanded and strengthened the empire, extending to the Danube River.
