The Falling Clock
Arguing in the Hotel
She never loved you.
Gatsby all alone at the dock
I miss you Daisy
This clock is a symbol about how you can not repeat the past, it is too long gone. During this awkward reunion, the clock fell at the right time and Gatsby “ caught it with trembling fingers” (Fitzgerald 86). This shows that he is trying to save what has happened in the past but it can not be fixed.
Gatsby is so attached to Daisy, that he would do anything to get her to come home with him. Gatsby tells Tom “ your wife doesn’t love you” ( Fitzgerald 130). This shows that all Gatsby cares about is getting Daisy back and ruining Tom and Daisys relationship but it is too late.
Gatsby love for Daisy is shown when “ he stretched out his arms toward the...green light” (Fitzgerald 20-21). This shows that he cares about her so much but he can not repeat the past.
