Storyboard Text

  • There should be two houses; the poeple would vote for one house and the state legislatures would vote for the other house. Population would base the house representation.
  • Virginia Plan
  • Important!
  • There should be one house. Population should not base house representation. Instead, each state should get an equal amount of representation. Simliar to the Aritcles of Confederation.
  • New Jersey Plan
  • Only one house, elected by people.
  • Not Important!
  • Compromise between the Virginia plan and the New JErsey plan. Two houses. One house has 2 representatives from each state. The other house has representation based on the population of a state.
  • The Great Compromise
  • Created as an agreement between the Northern and Southern States. Southern States wanted slaves to be counted for representation, but the Northern States didn't want this. The compromise states that 3 out of every 5 slaves will get representation.
