  • Gone and Back Again
  • No god. Why take me for a god? No,no. I am that father whom your boyhood lacked and suffered pain for lack of. I am he.
  • The Suitors
  • A pity that you have more looks than heart. You'd grudge a pinch of salt from your own larder to your own handyman.
  • Penelope
  • My lady, never a man in the wide world should have a fault to find with you. Your name has gone out under heaven like the sweet honor of some god-fearing king, who rules in equity over the strong:
  • From this quote we can tell that Odysseus is trying to convince his son that he is his dad and not a god also that Odysseus feels bad for not being there through his childhood.
  • Challenge
  • From this quote we can tell that Odysseus is judging Antonius by his actions, not his looks. Even though Odysseus is disguised as a beggar and therefore "below" Antonius, he is not afraid to call him selfish and stingy in front of the suitors.
  • Revenge
  • You yellow dogs, you thought id never make it home from the land of Troy. You took my house to plunder, you dare forbid my wife while i was still alive. Contempt was all you had for the god who rule wide heaven, contempt for what men say to you hereafter. Your last hour has come. You die in blood.
  • From this quote we can tell that Odysseus is trying to give Penelope hints that its him without giving it away that he is Odysseus.
  • Penelope's Test
  • Make up his bed for him, Eurycleia. Place it outside the bedchamber my lord built with his own hands. Pile the big bed with fleeces, rugs and sheets of purest linen.
  • From this quote we can tell that Odysseus is proud that he didn't embarrass the family and that he is stronger than the younger men, also that he is ready to get revenge on the suitors.
  • Telemachus, the stranger you welcomed in your halls has not disgraced you. I did not miss, neither did I take all day stringing the bow. The hour has come to cook their lordships mutton.
  • From this quote we can tell that Odysseus is no longer hiding who he is, he wants them to know that they are without honor and that they are going to die and they cant prevent it.
  • From this quote we can tell that even though its been twenty years Odysseus he still expects Penelope to have been faithful to him and he is upset because he thinks that she has spent time with the god.
  • Who dared to move my bed? No builder had the skill for that---unless a god came down to turn the trick. No mortal in his best days could budge it with a crowbar.
