  • Janie is tired of believing that love will come with marriage. She feels no romantic interest for Logan and begins to tell him the truth. Janie is going to leave her role as a wife to search for love.
  • I don' wunna be wit' you no mo'. Whut would happen if Ah got up an left yo sorry soul on Sunday fo mah sake?
  • Quit yo' alliteration and understand you can't leave me. All the women wunt me and you iz lucky enough to have me.
  • Jody begins to express his oppressive nature due to his insecurities. He begins to make malicious comments towards Janie's appearance. Janie has had it, and acts in a capricious manner. Revealing her voice.
  • Ah know Ah am aging, but you can't talk if Ahpull down yo' britches!
  • Ah done have it wit you! Get from here!
  • Janie finds true love with TeaCake. Her previous two marriages were not the horizon she was searching for.Teacake exhibits freedom and happiness for Janie. She utilizes personification to symbolize the journey it took to find TeaCake.
  • The horizon took itz time to walk over here and find you. Cuz now I am truly happy wit you TeaCake.
  • Ah feel like a real woman when im witchu. It would hurt mah soul fo' you to leave. You make me feel like im under a pear tree.
  • Ah wunt ya happy. Ah'd do anythang to make ya happy.
  • Janie catches TeaCake being flirtatious with another woman. This is the first instance that Janie becomes physical and depicts jealousy. She utilizes a double entendré to illustrate his infidelity. Janie knows TeaCake loves her, but wans to hear his denial and love for her.
  • Da only fruit she been pickin' is yo bananas! Ah cannot belive yuh!
  • Do you really?
  • We wuz only pickin' fruit! I don need no otha woman 'sides you!
  • Janie, yuh iz da only woman fo me! Nunkie ain't nothin' but a woman to break wood against! I luh yuh!
  • A hurrican emerces, and Janie refuses to recant her feelings for TeaCake. They will stand by each other, but everything changes when a mad dog bites Teacake. This leads Janie to shoot him, ending his pain. She did it out of love, and will always love him.
  • Dat mad dog gon got yuh!
  • I dun care about dat! Ah finally see da light with you TeaCake. Ah rather be happy wit you den unhappy else where.
  • Ah'm sorry Janie. If it wusn't fo' me, you would be livin' fancy.
  • Janie tells her story to Phoebe. Janie starts off immature and innocent thus transcending into womahood throughout her marriages. Janie's characterization can be described as a woman attemptin to find herself and love.
  • Don't care whut you tell 'em Phoebe. I been tuh da Horizon and back. Ah will hang dem memories of on mah wall and remember da good. Compare mah husbands and see mah growth.
  • Ah will make certain dat those gosspin' ladies understand dat Janie Mae Crawford is not stuck up, but took a voyage to find her happiness.
