Generations: Adam to Noah Gn 5:1-32 by - Stefanie Goy
God gave humans the command to full the earth, and so they did. Chapter 5 covers the genealogy of Adam's family. It includes important figures we have already read about, such as Seth, and uses very large numbers to tell us that Adam's decedents were very old and very wise. Then we are introduced to Noah, the son of Lamech. He was a blessing to the family, and had three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
"When God created man, he made him in the likeness of God; he created them male and female. When they were created, he blessed them" (Gn 5:1b-2).
"and he had other sons and daughters" (Gn 5:22b).
"When Lamech was one hundred and eighty-two years old, he begot a son and named him Noah, saying, 'Out of the very ground that the Lord has put under a curse, this one shall bring us relief from our work and the roil of our hands,'" (Gn 5:28-29).
