Murder of Thomas Becket Witnessed by the Writer Picture Book By Julianne Stein and Alyssa Dixon
He responds: "I have nowhere to go; this makes make you aimed at me before hand," because he has power they strive against: and they hold back the monks; with to whom and teacher Edward Grim who first to William of Tracy takes his arm and blocks the sword from hitting the Archbishop; and to this blow the archbishop got hit in the head causing leaning forward and the other a grave wound in the arm.
Thomas Becket takes a level sword strike between the shoulder blades. The soldier that deals the blow says, “Now, you die!”
Fuge, mortuus es.
“You to die; It is impossible for you to live any longer.” Becket then says, “And I in the name of the Lord give my life and my spirit and this church for the cause of God and Mary. It shall not be for the sake of your swords that I shall flee; but by the authority of God, I forbid that you hurt anybody else but me.
Et ego in nomine Domini mortemsuscipio et animam meam et ecclesiae causam Deo et beatae Mariae et sanctis huius fugiam; sed auctoritate Dei interdico ne quempiam meorum tangatis.
Ut moriaris; impossible est ut vivas ulterius.
That he stands unmoved and holding forth his neck was commending to God. Some saying: “You are captured: you come with us,” throwing his hand so they can drag him from the church; and they would have done so if not for fearing the people would tear him from their hands.
Captus es: venies nobiscum.
