The Cross of Lead
In the beginning, Crispin was timid and full of sadness. He knew very little in the way of skills or the world.
The first thing that changed Crispin was leaving Stromford. For the first time, Crispin started to make his own decisions and to go against everything that he knew. Crispin learned independence from this. He changed from being timid to having enough guts to run away.
1: Leaving Stromford
Meeting Bear also changed Crispin. From juggling and music-making to mending and weaponry, Crispin learned much from Bear. Bear also taught him to look people in the eye, and that he had a soul. Crispin changed from ignorant and timid to skilled and less shy.
3: Challenging Aycliffe
Crispin was also changed by Bear's arrest. He had learned to love Bear like the father he didn't have, so this pushed him to his limits. He overcame his fears to confront Aycliffe and save Bear. From this, he learned that he could love and make a difference. He changed from timid to determined and more confident.
At the end, Crispin was happy and free. He knew many more skills than he did at the start.
