Waves of Immigration
"The Irish came to America with not a lot of money. The women would work as house servants. The men would work mainly in an unskilled job."
"The German's on the other hand came to America very wealthy. Many of these Germans worked on low paying jobs. A lot of the males moved to America to avoid conscription in the German military. Other Germans came to America because they were struggling farmers, political refugees, or religious refugees."
"In the Waves of Immigrants more than 4 million immigrants settled in the US between 1840-1860. Also, more than 3 million immigrants were either German or Irish. Many immigrants came to America seeking greater economic opportunity, while some, such as Pilgrims in the early 1600s, arrived in search of religious freedom."
