As Theseus and Hyppolita are trying to plan their wedding, Egeus tells his daughter, Hermia she must marry Demetrius instead of Lysander. Theseus agrees with him. Lysander proceeds to object by saying he is just as good as Demetrius but his efforts are ignored completely.
Hermia and Lysander agree to run away together and get married in the woods. as they are planning they run into a complaining Helena who is not only Hermia's best friend who she grew up with, but she is also in love with Demetrius who Hermia wants nothing to do with. Helena is angry because he loves Hermia and not her.
Helena then runs to Demetrius to tell him they ran off in hopes that he will be thankful and give her a chance. She is sadly mistaken. When she tells him, he is only concerned with finding Hermia. she Proceeds to beg him and he just isn't having it. He slaps her and she barks like a dog trying to prove that she will be so obedient she will be similar to that of a common house pet.
Titania has a changeling boy that Oberon wants to take from her. She wont let him so he sends another fairy, Puck, to get a flower that has power to make anyone fall in love with the first thing they see. He intends on using its power to distract Titania. He sees Helena's problem and tells him to use the flower on an Athenian man, meaning Demetrius. But things don't go as planned...
Hermia made Lysander sleep away from her because they aren't married yet. Puck sees this and thinks they don't like each other so he assumes Lysander is Demetrius. He uses the flower on him and Helena and Demetrius arrive. The first thing Lysander sees is Helena and he falls in love with her.
Lysander gets up and professes his love for Helena but Helena is not happy about it. She is offended by such audacious advances. She thinks He is mocking her and she does not like that one bit.
