Langston was born on February 1, 1902, and, he lived with his grandma but she was poor and he was often lonely.
Since Langston didn't see his mother and father often, Langston's grandmother told him stories and he was a "class writer" in school.
Langston went to go see his father in Mexico and lived with him for about a year. This is also where he wrote his first poem, which was called, "The Negro Speaks Of Rivers." This poem was published in 1921.
