The Monkey's Paw

Storyboard Description

This is the first storyboard. I couldn't finish with just one, so I'm going to have to make a second board to finish the story.

Storyboard Text

  • It had a spell but on it by a fakir. He wanted to show that those who interfere with fate do so to their sorrow.  He made it so it could grant three wishes to three separate people.
  • Opening shot of outdoors for title sequence. End shot with the sound of Morris beginning his story about the monkey's paw.
  • Shot enters the house where Morris is getting to the part about how he, the second man has had his 3 wishes and there's only one set left. (Have to get it condensed since I only have so many panels, and I can't find any good expressions for the, "His last wish was for death," part).
  • The shot might zoom in on Mr. White and Morris, with White saying, "Well then why don't you give it to us as it's not helping you anymore?" Morris waits a while before saying, "Better where you are. Better to let it burn." But seeing the look in everyone's eyes he says after a while, "But if you must wish, wish for something sensible. The paw grants wishes in a way so natural one might attribute it to coincidence."
  • Herbert says, "Then how about you just wish for 200 pounds to pay off the house, dad? I can't imagine how that could hurt anyone." Morris looks like he's thinking of a way as Mr. White wishes for the pounds and the screen fades to black with the words "The Next Day..." in white on the screen.
  • The screen is still black as an unknown voice says, "There's been an accident." The screen then cuts to a close shot of a darkly dressed man with a grim expression on his face. Mrs. White says, almost immediately, "Is Herbert alright?"  The man says, "I'm afraid he's been badly hurt. At least, if it provides any solace, he's not in any pain."
  • Mr. and Mrs. White's expressions turn grim. The stranger says, "I am just the messenger. But Herbert's company would like to provide some compensation." Mr. White get's up, with a horrified expression, and asks, "how much?" the music swells as the man replies, "300 pounds," and the screen fades to black again.
