  • Go get wood for a fire Lennie!
  • No, leave us alone
  • Have any of you seen Curley?
  • Sorry, I have to do this...
  • The story opens to George and Lennie going into the clearing to stay the night there.  George is small but sharp, Lennie is large, shapeless of face. 
  • I done a real bad thing.
  • The main conflict is between Curley's wife and George and Lennie. Throughout the book, Curley's Wife is always being mischievous around the men. Her behavior eventually causes the collapse of Lennie and the downfall of their dream.
  • George won't let me tend no rabbits no more.
  • The rising action in the novel is when Carlson Kills Candy's dog. This symbolically relates to how that George kills Lennie at the end of the novel. Carlson killing Candy's dog foreshadows George killing Lennie. 
  • Sure, I gotta, we gotta.
  • The climax of the story is when Lennie breaks Curley's Wife's neck. This event foreshadows that George will kill Lennie. When Carlson kills Candy's dog, it is also a clue that George will kill Lennie. This event is the climax because it triggers the falling action.
  • The falling action of the story is when Lennie runs away from the mob after him for killing Curley's Wife. This event is the falling action because it leads up to the resolution of the story. This event leads up to George killing Lennie.
  • The resolution of the story is when George kills Lennie. This event closes the book on a dreary note. This event was foreshadowed when Carlson killed Candy's dog. George is the tragic hero in this story because he killes Lennie. George's tragic flaw is that if he doesn't kill Lennie then someone else will.
