Storyboard Text

  • Steven Harvey Chemical Bonding
  • Once there were 3 atoms...2 were oxygen and one was carbon.
  • Alone, they were simply every day atoms.
  • But if they worked together, as a compound, they could be so much more!
  • The three atoms now make up CO2.  (Carbon Dioxide)
  • O
  • C
  • When carbon and oxygen are mixed a chemical reaction happens.  This creates a new substance called carbon dioxide.
  • O
  • Covalent bonding happens when pairs of electrons are shared by atoms. Atoms will covalently bond with other atoms to gain more stability, which is gained by forming a full electron shell.  When they share electrons, atoms can fill up their outer electron shell and gain stability.
