Once there were 3 atoms...2 were oxygen and one was carbon.
Alone, they were simply every day atoms.
But if they worked together, as a compound, they could be so much more!
The three atoms now make up CO2. (Carbon Dioxide)

When carbon and oxygen are mixed a chemical reaction happens. This creates a new substance called carbon dioxide.

Covalent bonding happens when pairs of electrons are shared by atoms. Atoms will covalently bond with other atoms to gain more stability, which is gained by forming a full electron shell. When they share electrons, atoms can fill up their outer electron shell and gain stability.
