Storyboard Text

  • In Act 1 Scene 1, Walter is explaining his plan to open a liquor store with Willie and Bobo to provide more money for his family. Ruth gets annoyed and ignores him by telling him to eat his eggs.
  • "Walter, leave me alone! Eat your eggs, they gonna be cold" (Hansberry 32).
  • "It is my business- where is he going to live, on the roof?" (58).
  • In Act 1 Scene 2, Ruth comes home to the Younger apartment confessing that she is pregnant. Beneatha gets frustrated becasue she believes there is no room for a baby.
  • "Well, I guess from all the happy faces- everybody's knows," (57).
  • In Act 2 Scene 1, Mama comes home from being out all day and tells her family that she has put a downpayment on a house. Ruth rejoices, but Walter becomes very upset with Mama's decision on how to spend the money from the check.
  • "She went out and bought you a house! You glad about the house? It's going to be yours when you get to be a man," (91).
  • In Act 2 Scene 2, Mama gives money the rest of the money from the check to Walter. She tells him to put three thousand in for Beneatha's school, but the rest she is giving to Walter.
  • "It ain't much, but it's all I got in the world and I'm putting it in your hands," (106).
  • "And we have decided to move into our house becasue may father-my father- he earned it for us brick by brick," (148).
  • In Act 2 Scene 3, Walter calls Karl Lindner telling him to come over right away. As a big moment in the play, Walter declines Linder's offer and tellis him that his family will still be moving in to the house. Mama is relieved that Walter had set a good example in front of his son Travis.
  • In Act 3, the Younger family is excitedly finishing packing and moving out of the apartment. At the very end of the play, Mama runs back inside and as a symbolic moment, grabs her plant and exits the stage.
  • "All right, honey- go on down. I be down directly," (151).
