  • Trouble for church
  • Lets go Clifford
  • Scala Sancta
  • The 95 theses
  • Stairs...Really!
  • Schism (multiple popes), Simony (buying Church jobs) & indulgences (selling forgiveness) caused reformers to speak out
  • The 5 Solas
  • #1 The bible alone is our highest authority
  • The Scala Sancta was a set of stairs in which people got on their knees and prayed. For each step they took, they got rid of one year in purgatory
  • Diet Of Worms
  • In 1517, when Martin Luther found out about theses stairs, he thought that the only way to go to heaven and/or out of purgatory was to believe in Christ. So he put his "95 theses" up on a wall so people can see it and debate, He instead got something even worse.
  • Martin Luther translates Bible into German
  • Introducing... German: Lutherbible
  • The Five Solas are five Latin phrases that emerged during the Reformation to summarize the Reformers’ theological convictions about the essentials of Christianity.
  • In 1517, when Martin Luther drew up his 95 theses condemning the Catholic Church for its corrupt practice of selling “indulgences,” or forgiveness of sins, he had been called to Worms, Germany, to appear before the Diet (assembly) of the Holy Roman Empire and answer charges of heresy where he refused to answer the question (unaware of the question in which he refused to answer) "'Since then your imperial majesty and your lordships demand a simple answer, I will give you one without teeth and without horns. Unless I am convicted of error by the testimony of Scripture or by manifest evidence...I cannot and will not retract, for we must never act contrary to our conscience....Here I stand. God help me! Amen!"
  • Following the Diet of Worms in 1521, Luther's territorial ruler, Frederick the Wise, had Luther hidden away for safekeeping in the castle at Wart burg. Luther settled down and translated Erasmus's Greek New Testament in only eleven weeks. This is a phenomenal feat under any circumstances, but Luther contended with darkened days, poor lighting, and his own generally poor health. German: Lutherbible was later published in September 1522.
