  • The Death of Lenin
  • Hello Sir. Is this Petrograd?
  • This place used to be called Petrograd, but now we call it Leningrad
  • Stalin vs Trotsky
  • World Revolution! More Revoltuions!
  • Socialism in one country! We will improve our industry!
  • In March 1921 Lenin created the New Economic Policy (NEP). This allowed private trade, peasants could sell their surplus produce and small factories returned to private ownership. The NEP was a great improvement at first but it was created too late.
  • Rise to Power
  • I am a genuis! That plan worked perfectly! Who to eliminate next?
  • Just before he died, Lenin established a dictatorship for Russia with the help of the Communist party. The dictatorship was to be exercised on behalf of the peasants. Lenin died on January 21, 1924, from a hemorrhagic stroke. Petrograd was renamed Leningrad to honor him.
  • Five Year Plans
  • In 1917 a man named Joseph Stalin became a Bolshevik. After the death of Lenin, both Leon Trotsky and Stalin had two very different ideas for Russia. Trotsky's idea was called "World Revolution" which was to have the Russians cause revolutions in advanced countries. Stalin's idea was called "Socialism in one country" which was to have the Russians advance in the industry. Stalin's idea was much more popular among communist parties.
  • The Purges
  • Are you working with Trotsky to overthrow the Soviet?!
  • Yes I am
  • When Stalin's supporters were elected for the central committee he no longer needed Zinoviev and Kamenev (Communist party members). Stalin sided with Zinoviev and Kamenev to eliminate Trotsky by removing him between 1924-26. In 1926 he sided with Bulkharin to eliminate Zinoviev and Kamenev, and in 1929 he expelled Bulkarin. Stalin now had all the power.
  • Stalin came up with an idea to make two five year plans to industrailize Russia. His first plan focused on industry and the second one focused on agriculture. These plans had a huge impact on Russia and they allowed the Russians to increase their goods.
  • In 1934 Stalin's purges began when the Chief of the Leningrad, Kirov was murdered. Now Stalin would have an excuse to launch a muder of all the Bolshevik leaders. It began with the "Show trials." These were trails Bolshevik leaders admitted they were plotting with Trotsky to take over the Soviet Union. If they didn't admit, they would suffer torture and loss of family. They were all imprisoned or killed and only Stalin had remianed.
