Haemon sucks up to Creon because he doesn't want Antigone, his future wife, to die.
When Creon starts being irrational to Haemon about Antigone's crime and her upcoming punishment, Haemon threatens to kill himself.
Creon tells the Chorus that he's changed his mind about killing Antigone, but he still plans on punishing her by imprisoning her somewhere away forever.
