Gatsby was seen standing towards a green light across the river, with his arms out wide like he was reaching for something. This is the very first time we were introduced to Gatsby.
Gatsby throws a huge party. Gatsby invites Nick to his party and Nick is thrilled and goes. He makes his best effort to find the host: Gatsby himself but he comes to think maybe Gatsby doesn't want to be found. Eventually Nick finds Gatsby.
Gatsby invites Nick to go out to lunch with him. Nick waits at his door until Gatsby makes an appearance. Here all the readers are wondering why Gatsby chose Nick because he doesn't seem to have any friends.
Gatsby asks Nick to invite Daisy over for tea. But he also said that he was in love with daisy and wants to reconnect with her over tea. Little does daisy know that Gatsby will be there as well. In this part of the novel we figure out that Gatsby loves Daisy and is just like anyone else: he gets super nervous around her when he meets her again.
Gatsby invites Daisy over to his house so he can try to impress her. Daisy is in aw and Gatsby and her reconnect. Meanwhile Nick is in the corner feeling awkward because Daisy and Gatsby are getting along very well. this is when the affair starts.
Daisy convinces Tom to invite Gatsby and Nick over for dinner. Early in the night tom gets suspicious that something is going on between Daisy and Gatsby. This is when the truth comes out about what's happening between the two.
